Motivation: The Road To It
What is motivation?
Motivation is the experience of desire or aversion (you want something, or want to avoid or escape something). As such, motivation has both an objective aspect (a goal or thing you aspire to) and an internal or subjective aspect (it is you that wants the thing or wants it to go away).
This is the definition I got from Wikipedia.
Basically, it's the thing that keeps us going. It's the why in our activities. It's the thrust that will push us to do more. It's that thing that will constantly be in our heads to be able to achieve that goal we've been longing to have.
Since the lockdown back in early March, we all have been looking for ways to motivate ourselves to still keep the same routine and to adjust the activities that we used to do outside, except this time we're doing it inside our homes. It's never easy and trust me when I tell you that the bed is more enticing than you'll ever know.
Being cooped up inside our homes for God knows how long now has taken a toll on ourselves mentally and physically. I've noticed my kids eating every hour on the hour...well, because it's summer and we're all adjusting together. I've noticed that I seem to have lost track of what I eat and when I eat because everything is almost always available. Information is streamed nonstop via our phones, laptops and TVs while we try to filter which is real and which is just plain exaggeration. I have reached a point that I choose not to watch the news, and just focus on the now.
So now that we're ending July and we're already on Month 4 (since we started community quarantine and all its levels since mid-March) of lockdown, let's just assume that the rest of 2020 will be spent in the house and should we find ourselves outside then it's the oddest times in order to avoid the masses of people. If it's any consolation, I choose the opening time of supermarkets and can only go out on a scheduled basis because of the food & medicine pass required by major malls.
Homeschooling has been, thankfully, smoother than expected. Given that I've embraced the normal that we have in our house. The dynamics is something I needed to accept and embrace, so the open curriculum that we have really works for us. It's not restricted on a daily work schedule but it's flexible enough that I can jump from one topic to another depending on his interest. Of course, there are good days and bad days and Lau and I have promised ourselves to take it one day at a time...
So, what's motivating you to keep it going?
The kids? The family? Yourself? It's an all-encompasing question, I know. The answers vary but the bottomline is...your WHY.
