Keeping Healthy and Virus-Free
With the recent outbreak of nCov around the world, one cannot help but be hypersensitive towards everyone's health. And the risk of having to travel and to crowded areas heightens everyone's senses at an all-time high.
Social media has been both a pro and con in these times and while we are lucky to still have access to news, sometimes it can also get the best of us. The sudden demand of surgical face masks as well as all sanitizing products has basically put the economy in turmoil, and yes the prices have also increased as well, almost quadruple in most cases.
So, what can we as parents do in order to maintain order and also teach our children during these times?
1. Information is key
I've learned to trust the right sources of information. As I said, social media is a pro and con. It plays a big role in getting news out but we also need to be mindful and filter which news is accurate and correct and which is not.
2. Trust in the system
This is also the time that we need to trust to the system that our government has put into place which is parallel to what WHO has also ordered. nCov has not reached pandemic levels and this is something I am praying will not, but fear mongering will not get us anywhere either. Both 1 and 2 correlate and when systems are put into place, accurate information will come out and vice versa.
3. Do not hoard on surgical masks
As much as we want to be prepared, hoarding will not really get us anyway. Trust me, I would have wanted to buy boxes of surgical masks enough to open a pharmacy once this all blows over. But I also realized that I won't be able to use it as much as I'd expect because I work from home and rarely go out to crowded areas unless am running errands or doing the groceries. The masks are much more needed in the hospitals where there are actually sick people. I got lucky to have gotten one box of masks but barely used 3 masks because we weren't sick in the house and if we were, we didn't get out either to contain the virus.
4. Hygiene and sanitation should be practiced
We all can have masks but if hygiene isn't prioritized, the virus will still spread. Practice and make it a habit to wash your hands as often and not touch your face unless you have washed your hands. Always have a small bottle of alcohol in your bag, your kids' bags and even the car to ensure that you can sanitize and have clean hands anywhere you go. Make it a habit to remind everyone in your household to wash their hands and to freshen up when they arrive from outside. Being clean ensures that the virus is rid of.
With a 7-year-old and 2-year-old at home, their toys is also a breeding ground for virus. I was able to purchase a UV Care Deluxe Germ Terminator sterilizer about 2-3 years ago and been using it eversince.
I also have the UV Care pocket sterilizer which I keep in my bag at all times.
5. Double up on your vitamins and supplements
If there's anything that you need to double up, it's on your daily vitamins and supplements. If you want to go the more natural route, try introducing more fruits and vegetables in your diet as well. Nothing beats a virus like a healthy immune system. We are lucky to be living in a city where fruits and vegetables are rich and can be bought almost anytime. Double up on those and enjoy those shakes and homemade iced lollies for the kids.
We all wish we can put our kids in a bubble but we can always arm them with the correct information and habits to ensure that they'll be healthy and virus-free as much as possible. Same with us, sometimes, with all of this preparation we forget to also focus on ourselves because we think we're capable of handling anything. But as much as we are protecting and keeping our kids healthy, let's also ensure we are as well.
